Case Study: Kingham Plough Project

Client: Potted Goose
Year: 2020
Location: Kingham, Oxfordshire
Project Type: Hospitality Joinery / Bar Interior Enhancement

Project Overview

Set in the heart of the Cotswolds, The Kingham Plough is a cherished village pub known for its welcoming atmosphere and elevated dining. Object Atelier was commissioned by Potted Goose to reimagine key elements of the bar area, which had grown tired and lacked cohesion with the rest of the interior. The brief called for a sensitive, functional redesign that would breathe new life into the space without compromising its heritage.

Furniture Design Approach

The focus of the project was on enhancing both the aesthetic and practical elements of the bar. Our intervention centred on a new sink area and a refined bottle display, encouraging exploration and accessibility for customers. We worked to align the design with the pub’s traditional charm, incorporating handcrafted details that nod to its rural character.

The joinery scope included:

  • A reconfigured sink and bottle display area that improves flow and visibility, allowing staff and guests to interact more naturally with the bar offering

  • Overhead glass racking designed to celebrate the bar’s generous ceiling height, while adding a layer of visual interest and utility

  • Bespoke shelving solutions to display bottles and glassware in an elegant yet approachable manner

Materials and Palette

In keeping with the pub’s rustic charm, we opted for a natural and time-honoured palette. Solid wood forms the backbone of the scheme, with gently aged finishes adding warmth and authenticity. The glass racking brings a refined clarity, providing a delicate contrast to the heavier timber elements, while maintaining the overall sense of cohesion and tradition.

Collaboration and Process

Object Atelier worked closely with the Potted Goose team to ensure that the new bar design not only respected the building’s history but also served its contemporary needs. Every joinery element was custom-designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing architecture, and installation was managed with care to minimise disruption to the pub’s daily operations.

The result is a bar that feels both characterful and refreshed - a space where heritage and functionality meet to support a truly memorable hospitality experience.
